Roses never fade...

I need to put down in words how much I adore the 80's, which is extremely difficult to do because some of the songs produced then render me speechless. Maybe it's the mix of roaring guitar solos, the introduction of the synth, the drum machine, the colour and the magic that made the 80's something truly wonderful, especially in music. There are many who would disagree with me but it was for me, the best decade of music and there are still songs yet to be discovered and that's the fun of it.

The new song I discovered today was 'Send her my Love' by Journey. Possibly the most romantic song I've ever heard. Move over Bon Jovi and Aerosmith, this song is pretty much as good as it gets for 80's pop rock.

I would also like to recount my previous statement about Steve Perry looking like a creep - he looks far better in this video and his vocals are epic, for want of a better word.

Okay, that's me done but I am soppy for the 80's and always will be!

#5

I was working in a school of some kind, sort of like a boarding school and I hated my boss, with a passion because we were arguing a hell of a lot. Then I saw a baby which I identified as a cousin of mine and I picked him/her up and I was carrying it around for ages. The baby was really heavy as well and I don't think I was holding it right. I eventually found a bedroom but you had to crawl into a lift and the weight of you made it go down which was difficult whilst holding a baby. Once in the bedroom, I put the baby in a cot.

I was then transported to an eighties takeaway and told the owner, Pierce Brosnan to make an excellent cake for me, which he did!

#4

I was at a gig at the university and I was with Fraser (random). I don't know who I was seeing but I knew that I had Millie in my backpack and that I had to get home. Laura and Devon joined for the journey home on the train. We had bought train tickets to go to Wales but then for some reason, we decided to spend another hundred buying plane tickets to Wales. Laura informed us she was ill but needed to go to her christmas temp job in London the next day. Then, for some reason, Devon couldn't go to Wales anymore so I was left with the dilemma of going by plane or train.

So I decided to go by train and went with Laura who was desperately trying to sort my tickets out but there were so many, I found myself giving up. I still had the plane tickets so I resolved to go on a plane and then get trains from there on in. Lots of trains, lots of planes and lots of tickets which added up to a very stressful dream!

Review of 'The King's Speech'

'The King's Speech' is the newest british-made film starring Colin Firth, Helena Bohnam Carter and Geoffrey Rush.

Plot

The story revolves around Prince Albert's struggle with his debilitating stammer that he has had since childhood. His wife decides to employ an australian speech therapist, Lionel, whose unorthodox methods seem to aid the Prince. However, when the Prince suddenly becomes King due to his brother's abdication, he begins to rely on Lionel as a friend than a doctor.

Characterisation

Geoffrey Rush added great comedic value to the movie as Lionel, a person who believes in equality, not class systems. Helena Bohnam Carter was delightful as the 'Queen Mother' and she sounds excellent posh! And then Colin Firth, a man who still manages to look yummy even though he is fifty, performed so well, you'd actually think he had a proper stammer.

The whole film was incredibly well-acted and funny (especially the swearing scene, which I guess, would make my generation laugh). Definitely should win a few awards.

I whip my Mo' back and forth...

I have ranted about Journey in a previous blog but since seeing Tron Legacy (Which contained a Journey song in it), I can't stop watching this song on youtube, along with the cheesiest video I have ever seen.

And then it struck me. One of the members of Journey has quite possibly the coolest moustache ever seen.

If someone comes dressed as him for my birthday, I would be extremely happy! Sigh, I love the eighties...

Review of 'Tron Legacy'

I have been wanting to see this film for months, months I tell you! So, I dragged my younger brother to see it tonight finally! 'Tron Legacy' is the long-awaited sequel to the 1982 film, 'Tron' starring Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde.

Plot

Basically, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) created a digital world where he became trapped, leaving his seven-year old son in reality. Twenty years after his disappearance, Sam (Garrett Hedlund) gets a message from his father's old office and he too becomes trapped in the digital world, and together with his father and a program called Kora, they must stop the evil Clu from gaining access to reality!

Characterisation

Sam is a babe. Kevin Flynn in the 80's was a babe. Michael Sheen was awesome as Castor, the slightly camp club owner. Nuff said.

Special Effects

The thing that is most impressive about this movie is the special effects. They are second-to-none and it's a film that was created for 3D, as almost every scene is in 3D.

Soundtrack

Daft Punk's soundtrack for the film is excellent. It oozes electronica and reminds me very much of The Terminator soundtrack which I also enjoyed. 'End of the Line' and 'Derezzed' are my personal favourites!

Overall, it was worth the wait and raving in the cinema to Daft Punk whilst watching the most awesome special effects I've ever seen was a movie experience I shall never forget.

Review of 'Gulliver's Travels'

The guys and me went to see the new Jack Black movie, 'Gulliver's Travels' in 3D!

Plot

Jack Black plays Gulliver, a bit of a nobody who, whilst trying to impress the editor he's had a crush on for five years', is sent to investigate the Bermuda Triangle and through a whirlpool-thing, gets transported to the tiny land of Lilliput which is populated by little people.

Characterisation

I only want to focus on two people. Number one, Jason Segel as Horatio. I have an insane crush on that man and I can't explain why! Plus, I loved his english accent, twas well sexy! Number two, Chris O' Dowd as General Edwards. ROY FROM THE IT CROWD IN A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE. What a legend. Plus, he was the main antagonist!

Humour

The cast boasts pretty much a who's who of comedy. Jack Black, Billy Connelly, Catherine Tate, James Cordon etc. It was hilarious and there was one bit I genuinely couldn't stop laughing at.

Overall, it was a hilarious movie with great effects, story and characters. The only thing that let it down was the 3D, there was virtually nothing in 3D!

I was running up a hill with my dad. Once I got to the top, I was next to a large mansion and the sky was a red, purple-ly colour because the sun was setting. I noticed that there was a rather large red dot in the sky and I assumed it was Mars. I looked into the telescope that was conveniently beside me and looked to see that Mars was huge! And it was growing bigger...

Then I looked to my left and up the road towards the mansion there was a large crowd of people, all of whom were in hysterics and pointing to the sky. My mum, Katie and Calum came rushing towards my dad and me and started hugging us. I then noticed that down the hill in front of me, in a field, there was a floating sphere of rock and molten lava (which I presumed was the core of the earth). Also, Mars was growing bigger and bigger and it was quite terrifying.

A thought...

Does it make anyone else laugh how the lead singer from Journey tries (and successfully fails) to achieve a sexy look?

He creeps me out to be frank!

Only Resolutions...

It is that time of year that I make false promises to myself about how I will become a better person. And it is without fail, a fail! But I may as well do it anyway so, without further ado, here is my list of New Year Resolutions.

1. Lose Weight
Self Explanatory really.

2. Make my wages and loan last a full month
Instead of spending it all in the first two weeks.

3. Try harder and put more effort into University
One day, my bad habits will catch up with me.

4. Stop feeling so damned insecure all the time
Life is great, why try and put a negative spin on everything?

5. Fulfill the 'Pact'
A riddle for you all

6. Be tidier
This one is a wee bit complex, but a girl (or a girl's mum) can dream

7. Learn how to cook
Basic stuff like Lasagne or Shepherds Pie, It can't be that difficult!

8. Give Blood
I'm not all that convinced on organ donation but blood is something I can do!

9. Enjoy every moment 2011 has to offer
And I intend to do this to the fullest of the full!

A change in the winds...

My first blog of the new year, excellent! Maybe I should start by recounting last night's activities, seeing as the beginning is always a good place to start!

I started getting ready at 6pm which was a little bit of a fail. After much tooing and froing with my wardrobe, I settled on my black dress which was okay I guess! I finished getting ready and then phoned a taxi to Ellyn's which was surprisingly quick and cheap! I got to Ellyn's and I wasn't the last one there so I was quite happy! We all got ready and I started to drink (Hehe). Then, our pizza delivery came and we all ate Pizza (funnily enough) and breaded chicken strips. I also managed to successfully make Devon spurt her drink but for the life of me, I cannot remember why! We then finished getting ready and Jill and Laura started to muck around!

Laura and Devon left Ellyn's at 11.30pm and the rest of us paraded into the lounge for the bells with Ellyn's family. It was really nice and wasn't as awkward as I was expecting it to be! Thanks Ellyn's family.

I called a taxi at 12.30pm, which also came pretty quickly and wasn't that expensive so I was rather chuffed! We then got into David's and played the Sourz Game! Then I generally mingled. It was a good night but there isn't much to report!

So all in all, it was a nice night to see in 2011! Let's hope it's a great year!
